People’s Health and Wellness Clinic is thrilled to further their volunteer base by welcoming full-time national service member Kaley Piersanti. Through the Vermont Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program (VYT), Piersanti will serve as an Outreach and Development coordinator at PHWC for the 2019-2020 service year.
Piersanti received her B.A. in Public Relations & Advertising from Rowan University in 2012 and has since worked and volunteered in varying capacities in both healthcare and communications. Piersanti is also a graduate student studying for her M.S. in Human Services Administration.
“I believe every human being deserves the chance to live their healthiest life,” Piersanti says. “My goal this year is to further the clinic’s mission by communicating all of the amazing things the volunteers and staff do every day.”
This year, the volunteer-run clinic celebrates 25 years of providing Central Vermonters with a long list of comprehensive healthcare services and assisting patients with enrollment in Vermont Health Connect plans, Medicaid, You First, and financial assistance programs. PHWC reduces barriers to healthcare access and continues to adapt to needs of the uninsured and underinsured people in the Central Vermont community.
“We are excited to welcome Kaley Piersanti as People’s Health & Wellness Clinic’s first AmeriCorps VISTA member,” stated Rebecca Goldfinger-Fein, PHWC’s Executive Director. “Volunteerism is what makes our clinic so special and allows all of our patients to receive high-quality care. Kaley’s public relations expertise, commitment to service, and passion for accessible healthcare are sure to bring great additions to PHWC’s outreach and development efforts.”
PHWC services are intended to strengthen and support our local community, using local resources and volunteers; and reduce costs which would otherwise be borne by the local hospital and insurers. In 2018, the clinic saw 2,374 patient interactions, 1,190 clinical consults; completed 212 dental hygiene visits and referring 62 of those visits to specialists; enrolled 105 patients in insurance/other assistance programs; and served patients from 44 Vermont towns.
PHWC relies on community generosity to continue providing essential healthcare services to our Central Vermont neighbors. In 2018, over 60 volunteer doctors, nurses, mental health counselors, and many more gave over $95,000 worth of their time serving PHWC patients. Keep an eye out for upcoming fundraising events like their 14th Annual Bowl-a-Thon on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
